Brief History

The 143rd regiment was organized at Monticello, Sullivan County, and mustered in under Colonel David P. De Witt, Lieutenant Colonel Horace Boughton and Major Joseph B. Taft  on October 8, 1862. This regiment was also known as the "Sullivan County Regiment".
The regiment marched to Washington, D. C., April 29-May 20, 1865. Their duty was at Washington, D. C. until July, 1865 where they were mustered out July 20, 1865 under Colonel Horace Boughton^[1][2].^[3]

Company C - principally recruited from Fallsburg, Rockland, Grahamville and Neversink, all of Sullivan County
