Record Description

You can browse through images in this collection by visiting the browse page for Australia, Cemetery Inscriptions, 1802-2005.

This collection will include records from 1802-2005.

This collection contains cards of cemetery inscriptions from many cemeteries throughout Australia. The majority of the cemeteries are in Queensland, but there are some in New South Wales, Norfolk Island, Tasmania, and Western Australia. Some cards include information culled from local newspapers. The file was the product of many years of work by genealogists

These records are handwritten transcriptions, so there may be transcription errors.

Record Content

Records may contain the following information:

  • Name and age of deceased
  • Date of birth and death
  • Names of relatives

How to Use the Record

To search the collection image by image select "Browse through images" on the initial collection page
⇒ Select the first letter of the last name
⇒ Select the appropriate last name. The sections are grouped by last name and include the first name of the first and last person in that group of records.
Search the collection by image comparing the information with what you already know about your ancestors to determine if the image relates to them. You may need to look at several images and compare the information about the individuals listed in those images to your ancestors to make this determination.

Keep in mind:

There may be more than one person in the records with the same name. You may not be sure of your own ancestor’s name. Your ancestor may have used different names or variations of their name throughout their life.
