Parish History

St. Thomas was built by 1844 as a chapelry within the civil parish boundary of St Matthew Bethnal Green. There were places of worship for Baptists, Independents, Methodists, in addition toothers.[1]

By 1851, Bethnal Green's church attendance population was 11,752 of the Church of England, and 11,791 Nonconformists. In modern times, its 50 percent Muslim and 37.5 percent Church of England.
