FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Center, a branch facility of the Family History Library.

The Boone North Carolina Family History Center is located in the LDS Church in Boone. We serve primarily Watauga, Ashe, and Avery counties.

Calendar and Events



Class Schedule

The Boone Family History Center will be sponsoring workshops on the use of the FamilySearch website. Specifically, we will learn how to begin a family history; enter your information into Family Tree; add photos, documents and stories; search for records, and attach sources to your ancestors.

When: Thursdays from 9:30-11:00 am or Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:00 pm, beginning the week of May 18.

Where: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 604 Poplar Grove Road in Boone.

Participants are encouraged to bring a laptop or tablet computer as the workshops will be hands-on. If you want to attend but do not have a computer you can bring, please let us know when you register so we can arrange to have equipment for you to use.

Registration is required. To register for the Thursday morning or Tuesday evening workshops, email nc_boone@ldsmail.net. Please provide your name, email address, and telephone number and let us know which workshops you want to attend and any specific areas you would like to see covered. We will try to accommodate the needs and interests of attendees.

  • FHC Portal This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions. 



Resources in the Local Area

The Watauga County Public Library in Boone is a FamilySearch affiliate. Patrons can order microfilms and microfiche from FamilySearch to use in the library. The library has a genealogy club which meets the last Friday of each month at 3pm May through October.
