Breckenridge County
Breckenridge County was the former name of what is now Clay County. It was established in 1858 and named after then Vice President of the U.S. John C. Breckenridge. In 1862, the name was changed to Clay County, after Henry Clay, when Breckenridge joined the Confederate States of America in the Civil War.[1]
