NOTE: Whenever possible, FamilySearch makes images available for all users. However, ultimate rights to view images on our website are granted by the record custodians. The recommendation for publication of the death registrations prohibits putting records online with deaths less than 20 years’ or children who were born within the last 100 years and who died within one year of their birth. If there are any images that fall in that category on a digital film, then the whole film is restricted. FamilySearch respects and strives to adhere to all privacy laws respective to providing access to genealogical records. The collections are reviewed annually for inclusion of new unrestricted records.

Question #1: Some record detail pages include a film number that is not listed in the Catalog. Where can I get a copy of the death certificate?
Answer #1: Note that the Catalog provides a link to the website British Columbia Archives' Vital Events Indexes for an overview of vital records and to search an index hosted by the British Columbia Archives. A copy of the death certificate can be obtained by contacting the British Columbia Vital Statistics Agency. See the British Columbia Vital Records Wiki article for additional record acquisition information.
