Parish History

The redundant Anglican church of St Alphege is a former parish church of the city dedicated to the memory of a former Archbishop of Canterbury Alphage Wikipedia

The church was declared redundant in 1982, detailed history can be found at Kent Archaeological Society The building became the Canterbury Urban Studies Centre, later renamed the Canterbury Environment Centre; the building has been used by the King's School Canterbury since 2007 for music, drama and lectures. Kent County Council (KCC) has a certificate centre at the Mansion House in Tunbridge Wells which holds all the completed registers for Kent since 1 July 1837 and can supply a certified copy of any Kent birth, death or marriage entry from any register within its custody or a Kent civil partnership registration from the government online database.
