[Description of the state]

General Information

With its capital in Valencia, - “the Fiancée of the Sun” - , Carabobo State is characterized by its rich historical tradition. North center is located in the coastal region, between Mountain ranges of the Coast and the Interior, crossed by the gorge of Carabobo. It limits with the states of Guárico and Cojedes to the south, with Yaracuy to the west, Aragua to the east, and to the north, with the Caribbean.The battles of Carabobo of 1814 and 1821 gained by Simón Bolívar to the Spaniards in the fights by independence grant to the state an important historical meaning.


The capital, Valencia, were based on the 1555 by Alonso Díaz Moreno. Founded in 1555 with the name of New Valencia of the King, in remembrance of the city homónima of the Spanish Mediterranean, as intramontanos base of outpost towards the conquest of the interior of the country and valleys, acted like regional center from which the excessive agriculturists redistributed themselves. Its participation was important with the independentista movent in century XIX (19th Century), registering in its proximities th battle of Carabobo, decisive to assure independence of Venezuela. It served briefly as capital of the country in 1812, 1830 and 1858.


With the first territorial division of the Republic in 1811, it happeded to comprise of the Province of Caracas and with the law of Territorial Political Division of 1824, a new province with the name of Carabobo is secreted of the province of Caracas. After successive changes in its political-administrative jurisdiction, in the year of 1917 the last reform is made that takes to the Carabobo state to its actual configuration.


Others points of interest are the old Carmelite convent and, the plaza and church of the Candelaria, constructed by inhabitants of canary origin in 1782; Guacara, was originated in 1624 like town of Indians denominated San Agustín de Guacara; Guigue, was based on 1724 like the town Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Guigue
