Chamizal in El Paso, TexasEdit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
I grew up in the Chamizal area of El paso, Texas. That area used to belong to the United States until 1965 when it was given back to Mexico.
Before it was given back to Mexico, the United States Government purchased all the properties from the owners, which were mainly residences, and razed everything except the water tower at the Peyton's Packing Company.
I lived at 1408 Rosita, which ran from 11th Street to 13th Street. 13th Street was the last street running parallel to the US/MEX boundary.
I remember several of the families (Martinez, Rodriguez, Marquez, Carrazco, and others) that lived near our home, but have lost contact with them over the years.
I am very interested in getting copies of pictures of the area, and names of the people that lived there.
I have many fond memories of the business, livestock feed lots, the Rio Grande, the softball field next to KSET Radio Station Tower and what I thought was the city dump.
