Status of alternative non-named FamilySearch servers for the GeoCities refugees? I am referring to those whose data will not fit in the Wiki standards.  I received message from a very concerned GeoCities user anxious to save her Ruffin family data. The information does not fit in Pedigree Resource File format, either. This site: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Meadows/6276/ is a type of data you find a lot at GeoCities. dsammy 21:39, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

I sent this to a contact at Rootsweb today, however he's out of town and I'm not sure when he'll get back.  He may have an answer for this.  JamesAnderson 19:34, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Rootsweb is out of question for many of those GeoCities site owners. They do not trust Ancestry.com who is owner of Rootsweb. Rootsweb as an entity ceased to exist last year. dsammy 20:02, 21 July 2009 (UTC)

Just learned from an unrelated mailing list that the official date all the Geocities pages will go down will be October 26th, 2009.  That came from Yahoo, there are a lot more people than just genealogy and family history people scrambling for places to move their sites too.  JamesAnderson 04:12, 22 July 2009 (UTC)

Misinformed FHC Consultants?

Last Sunday I received a message concerning posting data on Wiki instead of elsewhere. Apparently, there are consultants who are not informed that FS Research Wiki is a reference, not a data repository. I referred this lady to Biographical Wiki site after I undid the data in one of NY's counties. She thanked me for that correction. dsammy 20:13, 21 July 2009 (UTC)
