FamilySearch This article describes the services and resources available at a Family History Center, a branch facility of the Family History Library.


The Concord California Family History Center serves Concord, Walnut Creek, Pleasant Hill, Martinez, and surrounding communities.  It is located in the broader Bay Area which is served by the Oakland California large Multi-stake Family History Center.

Upcoming Events

Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 5:00 PM through Monday, July 21, 2014 at 5:00 PM

A worldwide indexing and arbitrating event is occurring from 5:00 pm Sunday July 20th until 5:00 pm Monday July 21st. Come join the party. The Concord Family History Center is opening it's doors from 10 am until 5 pm on Monday the 21th of July. Bring your own Laptops or use our computers. We will have staff to teach you how to begin to index. You can do it at home or at a Family History Center. The goal is to have 50,000 people indexing and arbitrating in one 24 hour period. This is a history-making event, all that is needed is YOU!

Tuesday, August 19, 2014 -- Introduction to Genealogy

Six lessons offered jointly at the Concord Family History Center by Contra Costa County Genealogy Society AND Concord Family History Center Tuesday, August 19, 2014 through Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at 6-8:30 PM. One lesson offered jointly at the Concord Family History Center by Contra Costa County Genealogy Society AND Concord Family History Center on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at 6-8:30 PM.

Brochures including class descriptions and a registration form are available at the Concord CA Family History Center.  Registration and payment are required by September 30, 2014 to guarantee a syllabus.

Monday, February 23, 2015 -- Introduction to Genealogy

Six lessons offered jointly at the Concord Family History Center by Contra Costa Genealogical Society and Concord Family History Center. Beginning Monday, February 23, 2015 through Monday, March 30, 2015 at 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM. Registration and payment are required by February 9, 2015.

How to... class: 

How to... classes are offered monthly, January through May, on the third  Saturday at 10-11:30 AM.

              There is no charge, pre-registration is NOT required and All are welcome.

                              The 2015 class schedule has not been announced.

FamilySearch Catalog: This center has the ability to order any of the films and fiche available through the FamilySearch Catalog.

A catalog of all of the books, periodicals, CD's and extended loan microfilms and microfiche held by the Concord Family History Center is available online.

Databases and Software

FHC Portal This center has access to the Family History Center Portal page which gives free access in the center to premium family history software and websites that generally charge for subscriptions.

Hardware and Equipment

The Center has four microfilm readers capable of viewing 35mm and 16mm film, three microfiche readers, and a film scanner/printer.  Eleven computers, including two Macs, provide Internet access.
