Loss of Records

A courthouse fire occured on November 4, 1885 and destroyed all the records contained in the courthouse.  Records included the probate, land, marriages, circuit court and other records.   Information about this fire was found on the USGenWeb website for Cumberland County, Illinois citing newspaper articles reporting on the fire and destruction of records.
