DeSaussure's Squadron, South Carolina Cavalry was an Independent cavalry organization. It was created in December 1860 with two companies to aid the South Carolina Regular Army. In May 1861 it was mustered in to Confederate service. In June/July it was redesignated as the 15th Battalion, South Carolina Artillery.

A list of commissioned officers of this squadron is shown on list and filed with the First South Carolina Infantry enlisted men or regular, afterwards with Third South Carolina Artillery. Stationed at Charleston, SC April 17, 1861.

This book has an overview about the creation of the military units for service during the Civil War. There are four volumes which are divided into areas of the State. There is information about the different military units including dates of organization and service, company officers, battle engagements, company names and places of origin, and a few pictures. This book is also available through other libraries.
