Known Issues

NOTE: FamilySearch has several England Parish Registers collections that include images for the indexed marriage events.

Question #1: Some indexed records have been attributed to the wrong place or with incorrect dates. How can I determine the correct marriage information?
Answer #1: The event place and date can be verified by viewing the Catalog section containing the film notes. Search the Catalog using the film number included in the record detail page. See Question #2 about incorrect film numbers. A list of known problems below provides correct indexing information.

  • Records have been indexed as Norfolk, Virginia, USA. The correct place is Norfolk, England• Batch I00355-6, Film 183619: Records have been indexed as Dover, Kent. The correct place is Sturry, Kent, England.
  • Batch I00497-1, Film 1752198: Records have been indexed as Battersea, Surrey. The correct place of the St George German Lutheran Church is Whitechapel, London, Middlesex.
  • Batch I01348-6, Film 1040887: Records have been indexed as Walsall-Wood, Stafford. The correct place is Tutbury, Stafford. The film includes parish registers for both Tutbury (Items 1-6) and Walsall-Wood (Items 7-9) and can be viewed to confirm the correct place.
  • Batch I01477-7, Film 1751866: Faversham and Folkestone records are included on the same film but all records have been incorrectly attributed to Faversham. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Batch I02014-1, Film 2147080: Records have been indexed as Terrington, St Clement. The correct place is either East Grinstead, Funtington or Goring, Sussex. View the film to confirm the correct place.
  • Batch I02069-9, Film 1736521: Records have been indexed as Norfolk. The correct place is Alkham, Kent.
  • Batch I02070-7: Records have been indexed as Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The correct place is either St Mary or St Thomas Aquinas, Stella, Durham.
  • Batch I02241-3, Film 1470863: Records have been indexed as Wood Dalling. The place is questionable as the records could be from Norfolk parishes falling alphabetically after Wood Dalling .
  • Batch I02314-2, Film 1469094 Records have been indexed as Kyloe, Northumberland, England. The correct place is Doddington, Northumberland, England.
  • Batch I02318-1, Film1470920: Most Records have been indexed as Laverton, Somerset, England. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Batch I02377-8, Film 1470912: Records have been indexed as Pilton, Somerset. The film includes both Over Stowey and Pilton. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Batch I03058-3, Film 1470910. Records have been indexed as West Hatch, Somerset, England. The correct place is Nether Stowey, Somerset, England.
  • Batch I03327-8, Film 1526322: Records have been indexed as St. Martin At Oak Church, Norwich, Norfolk. The correct places also include St. Martin-at-Palace Church, Norwich and St. Michael Coslany Church, Norwich. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Batch I03376-6, Film 1656149: Records have been indexed as St Andrew, Lancashire. The correct place is St Anne, Lancashire. The film includes parish registers for both St Andrew and St Anne and can be viewed to confirm the correct place.
  • Batches I03904-9, I03905-0, Film 1517739: Records have been indexed as Wombourn, Staffordshire. The correct place is Yoxall, Staffordshire. The film contains parish registers for both Yoxall and Wombourn and can be viewed to confirm the correct place.
  • Batch I03964-7: Records have been indexed as Cahlvington. The correct place is Chalvington, Sussex, England.
  • Batch I04146-8, Film 1597111: Records have been indexed as Siston, Lancaster. The correct place is Siston, Gloucestershire.
  • Batches I04300-2, I04300-3, I04415-4, I04415-5, Film 1999830: Records prior to 1880s have been indexed as Hornton, Oxford. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Film 1526463: The film contains records from five parishes. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Batch I04511-8, Film 1849267: Records have been indexed as Barnsley, York. The correct place is Barningham, York.
  • Batch I04637-5, Film 199946 : Records have been indexed as Irchester. The film includes parish registers for both Irchester and Irthlingborough, Northampton. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Batches I04790-7, I04790-9, I04791-1, I04791-4, Film 1545479: Records have been indexed as Wardleworth in 1700, 1702, 1704, and 1706. The correct place is Rochdale and the years are 1700, 1702, 1704, and 1706.
  • Batch I06791-6. Records have been indexed as Lazant. The correct place is Lezant.
  • Batch I07402-8 and I07402-9, Film 1702622. Records have been indexed as Garboldisham. The correct place is Docking.
  • Batch I07435-5, Film 1702653: Records have been indexed as Weasenham All Saints, Norfolk. The correct place is Wimbotsham, Norfolk.
  • Film 1657204: The film contains records from six churches in Norfolk. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Batch I07537-8, Film 1951376: Records have been indexed as Hargham. The film includes parish registers for both Kenninghall and Hargham. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Batch M00731-5, Film 1656509: Records have been indexed as Lancaster, Lancashire. The correct place is Saint Peter, Liverpool, Lancashire.
  • Batch M01354-4, Film 1752222: Records have been indexed as Ripley, Derbyshire. The film includes parish registers for both Scropton, Derbyshire and Ripley, Derbyshire, and can be viewed to confirm the correct place.
  • Batch M01619-4 (EASy), Batch M13233-1 (ODM), Film 989534: Records have been indexed as both Somerton, Suffolk and Lawshall, Suffolk, respectively. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Batch M01656-8, Film 1595893 Item 3: Records have been indexed as Bristol, St Nicholas, Gloucestershire. The correct place is Bristol, St Peter, Gloucestershire.
  • Film 1278913: The film contains records from nineteen churches or chapels in Surrey. View the film to confirm the place
  • Batch M05442-2: England-VR records have been incorrectly indexed as Etwall. England-ODM records show the correct place as Longford.
  • Batch M13533-5 Film 1067298: Records have been indexed as St. James Westminster, London. The correct place is Salehurst, Sussex.
  • Batch: M15397-1, Film 1279445: Records have been indexed as England, Wiltshire, Bishopstone (near Shrivenham) and England, Wiltshire, Bishopstrow. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Batches M39139-9, M39140-1, M15411-1, Film 599466: Records have been indexed as Allington. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Film 1596232: The film contains records from five parishes. View the film to confirm the place.
  • Film 2262748: Records have been indexed as Marham. The film includes parish registers for both Marham and Hockwold-cum-Wilton. View the film to confirm the place.

Question #2: Some indexed entries include the wrong film number. What is the correct film number?
Answer #2: A list of known film number errors below provides the correct information:

  • Batch M01711-1 mistakenly identifies the source film as 97133. Entries for marriages performed at Albury, Surrey are found on Film 804115.
  • Batch M15823-1 mistakenly identifies the source film as 1279489. Entries for marriages performed at Buckland Newton, Dorset are found on Film 1279487.
  • Batch I03681-9: Some of the marriages in Warmley, Gloucester are indexed as being from source film 1597121 item 6. The correct item number is 2.
  • Batch M09674-1 mistakenly identifies the source film as 547369. Entries for marriages performed at Saint Dunstan In The West, London, London, England are found on Film 574369.
  • Films 0091528, 0091529: A search by film number results in no records. The records are from Horsley, Gloucestershire.

Question #3: Some entries in the collection are for marriage banns, but are not identified as such. What if the indexed marriage did not occur, or if the marriage occurred at another place and is not indexed in the England Marriages collection?
Answer #3: Check the Catalog film notes using the film number included in the record detail page to determine whether the Event Date or Event Place corresponds to the film notes for marriage banns.
