Wiki Project New York Tasks - Land and Property: Ancestry Task

Description

To locate pertinent land records databases on Ancestry.com and add them to the Land and Property heading.

Instructions

1. Search Ancestry.com (AncestryInstitution.com)

2. From the list on the left, search for any statewide or partial statewide databases that might apply to your county.

3. If you locate any databases that apply, list the databases under the Land and Property heading in chronological and then alphabetical order in the following manner:

:*'''1804-1824''' - Livsey, Karen E. ''Western New York Land Transactions, 1804-1824.'' Baltimore, Md.: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1991. Digital version at [http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=49407 Ancestry] ($).<br>

4. From the list to the right of the webpage Ancestry.com (AncestryInstitution.com), click on the county you are working on. Land and estate are hidden under, "Tax, Criminal, Land & Wills". There are not very many land records online so there may not be any listed for your county.

5. If there are any land and deed records databases for this county on Ancestry, list the databases under the Land and Property heading in chronological and then alphabetical order using the example in number 3.

6. You can list any other helpful info about the database after the $ in the entry (such as, not complete, index only, etc.).

7. If there are dates listed in the title of the database, repeat the dates just after the bullet in bold. Make sure to use the N–dash between the dates and anytime it is used in wiki text. The N–dash is made by holding the alt key and typing 0150

Example

  • 1804-1824 - Livsey, Karen E. Western New York Land Transactions, 1804-1824. Baltimore, Md.: Genealogical Publishing Co., 1991. Digital version at Ancestry ($).
