Wiki Project New York Tasks - Probate Records: Linkpendium Task

Description

To locate pertinent probate record databases on the website Lindpendium and list them under the Probate Records heading.

Instructions

1. Go to Linkpendium

2. Select your county and determine if there are any probate record databases listed. Linkpedium calls them Estate records. There are very few on the county level, so there may not be any listed. If there are none listed go to number 5.

3. If you locate probate databases for the county, examine each link:

a. Determine if the link works. If the link does not work, doesn't do not include.
b. Examine the information in the database to see if it is worth listing on the wiki. It will be your decision as to if it is worthwhile to list the database.

c. If there are some databases, examine them to make sure they have not already been added from the Ancestry or USGenWeb task already on the county page. Also do not add the SamPubCo links as they have already been added to the county page.

4. If you locate any databases that apply, list the databases under the Land and Property heading in chronological and then alphabetical order in the following manner:

:*'''1821-1841''' - Barber, Gertrude A. ''Monroe County, New York, Abstracts of Wills''. 1940-1941. Digital versions at [http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=16696 Ancestry] ($); [http://www.worldvitalrecords.com/indexinfo.aspx?ix=qcdny3214_monroe&utm_content=1546952 World Vital Records] ($). Will Books A, 1, 2, and 3.

5. Now look to see if there are any estate or probate records available for all of New York on Linkpendium.

6. If there are any estate or probate records databases for New York statewide that aren't previously listed, list the databases under the Probate Records heading in chronological and then alphabetical order using the example in number 4.

7. You can list any other helpful info about the database after the $ in the entry (such as, not complete, index only, etc.).

8. If there are dates listed in the title of the database, repeat the dates just after the bullet in bold. Make sure to use the N–dash between the dates and anytime it is used in wiki text. The N–dash is made by holding the alt key and typing 0150

9. Do not list Linkpedium as the source for the website. Instead cite the website that is providing the information as shown in the example.

Example

 • 1821-1841 - Barber, Gertrude A. Monroe County, New York, Abstracts of Wills. 1940-1941. Digital versions at Ancestry ($); World Vital Records ($). Will Books A, 1, 2, and 3.
