Description

Search FamilySearch Historical Records for pertinent county probate records - including wills and administrations and guardianships- and add them to the Probate Records heading on the county page.

Instructions

1. Click on New York Probate Records, 1629–1971. Then click on, Browse through 1,630,900 images

2. Now click on your county. Once on the page, locate in the list any wills, administrations and guardianships.

3. If your county is not listed, you are done with the county and will not add anything.

4. If your county is listed, add the heading Online Probate Records between the headings Online Probate Indexes and Probate Records on Microfilm.

5. Add the following sentence, changing the word, Allegany to the name of your county:

Original Allegany County probate records are available online at FamilySearch. To access these records, choose "browse through images". Then, choose your county name, and then the probate record of interest.

6. Determine the correct dates for the probate records for ONLY: wills, administrations, and guardianships (if there are any).

7. Add links to the records in the following manner changing the dates and names of the records to fit the county:

:*'''1831–1906''' {{FHL|224676|disp=Record of Wills}}
:*'''1807–1930''' {{FHL|224676|disp=Miscellaneous Surrogate Records}}
:*'''1852–1920''' {{FHL|224676|disp=Guardianship}}

NOTE: The link to the record group does not change from county to county. Just change the avaiable dates.

8. Add the word "–free" after each record.

Online Probate Records

Original Allegany County probate records are available online at FamilySearch. To access these records, choose "browse through images". Then, choose your county name, and then the probate record of interest.
