Description

The purpose of this task is to move the County Historian information from the County Courthouse page and move it to the County page.

Instructions

1. Go to the county courthouse page for your county.

2. If the county historian is listed, edit the page and change to wikitext. Then, cut the complete entry including the heading "County Historian's Office". Using the "cut" feature will copy the information and then remove what you are copying from the page.

3. SAVE THE COUNTY COURTHOUSE PAGE (the page should no longer have the historian info on it)

4. Go to the County page for your county and go down to the Repositories heading.

5. Edit Repositories and paste the County Historian's Office entry (in alphabetical order) from the county courthouse page.

6. Make sure the "County Historian's Office" is at a heading 5.

7. If no county historian is listed on the county courthouse page, search the internet to locate one. If you can't locate one, use the book Elizabeth Petty Bentley, Genealogist's Address Book FHL Book 973 D24ben 2009.

8. Once you find the information, add "County Historian's Office" as a heading 5.

9. Add the county historian's name (if you know it), the address, phone number, fax number, email address and any other helpful information.

10. If you used the book listed in #6, add a reference at the end of the first line (i.e. Nassau County Historian) by pasting the following in wikitext:

Elizabeth Petty Bentley, ''Genealogist's Address Book: State and Local Resources, with Special Resources Including Ethnic and Religious Organizations'', 6th ed. (Baltimore, Md.: Genealogical Pub., 2009), ppp. {{WorldCat|317917451|disp=At various libraries (WorldCat)}}; {{FHL|1619813|item|disp=FHL Book 973 D24ben 2009}}.

NOTE: Change the "ppp" to the correct page you got the information.

11. Add the following sentence under the contact information.

The County Historian may provide access to obituaries, vital records, church records, maps, and family files or journals. Some historians provide search services for their office records and others may refer you to local genealogists who research in the area.
