Adding a page to your watchlist allows you to be notified when the page is edited. Your watchlist is a tool for tracking changes, similar to the “Recent changes” display, but limited to showing changes only across your set of “watched” pages. Your watchlist is available only when you are logged in. You can see the watchlist display by clicking “my watchlist” link in the Personal tools section of the Navigation bar on the right.

How to add a page to your watchlist

Adding pages to your watch list is easy to do. Remember: Sign in to your account to access your watch list. After you have found particular pages that interest you, just click the “watch” link in the Views section of the Navigation bar.

Difference between the Recent Changes page and your "Watchlist"

The Recent Changes page lists all of the edits that are being done on the Wiki on any given day.  On a busy day, the Recent Changes pages are very long and can be quite overwhelming. Your watchlist will contain only the changes that occur on those pages that you are watching.  To begin tracking changes which are more interesting to you, start watching pages!

Why watch a page?

Typically you would watch pages related to your specific areas of interest and also pages where content is more important to you. If you make significant edits to a page you might watch the page so that you are notified of any follow-up edits by other contributors. Note that there is a “Watch this page” tickbox provided on the editing screen for this purpose.

If you are doing research in a specific county in England, etc. you click "Watch" that page so that you will be notified when additional research guidance is added. Or, if you are a major contributor to that page, you may also want to "Watch" so that you are notified when other people work on the page. This will give you the opportunity to work together with other contributors.

The display: changes read vs. unread

On the watchlist display, some page names appear in bold which indicates whether or not you have visited the page to see the change. This feature works like read/unread emails in an email inbox. The “Recent changes” display will also have some new bold highlighting indicating edits to pages on your watchlist.
