  • 1st Regiment, Illinois Cavalry
    Seven Companies, "A" to "G," organized at Alton, Illinois, and mustered in July 3, 1861.
    Mustered out July 14, 1862.
    Companies "I," "H" and "K" were not mustered with the Regiment and never served with it. They also organized at Alton, Illinois, and mustered out in 1861.
  • 2nd Regiment, Illinois Cavalry
    Organized at Ottawa, Illinois, and mustered in September 26, 1861.
    Mustered out November 22, 1865. Discharged at Springfield, Illinois, January 3, 1866.
  • 4th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry
    Organized at Ottawa, Illinois, and mustered in September 26, 1861. Consolidated with 14th Illinois Cavalry June 14, 1865.
  • 6th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry
    Organized at Camp Butler, Illinois, November 19, 1861.
    Mustered out at Selma, Alabama, November 5, and discharged at Springfield, Illinois, November 20, 1865.
  • 7th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry
    Organized at Camp Butler, Illinois, and mustered in October 13, 1861.
    Mustered out October 20, 1865, and discharged at Camp Butler, Illinois, November 17, 1865.
  • 9th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry
    Organized at Camp Douglas, Chicago, Illinois, and mustered in November 30, 1861.
    Mustered out at Selma, Alabama, October 31, 1865.
  • 12th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry
    Companies "A," "B," "C," "D," "E" and "G" organized at Springfield, Illinois, and mustered in February 24, 1862. Mustered out May 29, 1866.
  • 13th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry
    Eight Companies organized at Camp Douglass, Illinois, October 30, 1861, to February 20, 1862. Mustered out August 31, 1865.
  • 14th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry
    Organized at Peoria, Illinois, and mustered in 1st and 2nd Battalions, January 7, 1863. 3rd Battalion February 6, 1863.
    Mustered out at Nashville, Tennessee, July 31, 1865.
  • 15th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry
    Organized December 25, 1862, in the field and at Camp Butler, Illinois, by assignment of Stewart's Independent Cavalry Battalion, organized at Jackson, Tennessee, July, 1862, as Companies "A," "B," "C," "D," "E" and "F." Gilbert's Independent Cavalry Company, 52nd Illinois, organized at Geneva October 25, 1861, as Company "G." Kane County Independent Cavalry Company, organized September 1, 1861, as Company "H." Jenks' Company Dragcons, 36th Illinois, organized at Camp Hammond, Illinois, September 23, 1861, as Company "I." Sherer's Company Dragoons, 36th Illinois, organized at Camp Hamilton, Illinois, September 23, 1861, as Company "K." Ford's Cavalry Company, 53rd Illinois, organized at Ottawa, Illinois, January 1, 1862, as Company "L." Company "K," 1st Illinois Cavalry, assigned as Company "M," but mustered out December 27, 1862.   Moved to Louisville, Kentucky, June 12.
  • 17th Regiment, Illinois Cavalry
    Organized at St. Charles, Illinois, and 8 Companies mustered in January 28, 1864. Four Companies mustered in February 12, 1864.
    Mustered out Companies "C," "E," "I" and "M," November 23, and rest of Regiment December 15 to 22, 1865 probably Kansas.
