  • 8th Regiment, Illinois Infantry
    Organized at Cairo, Illinois, for three years' service July 25, 1861.
    Mustered out at Baton Rouge May 4 and discharged at Springfield, Ill., May 13, 1866.
  • 10th Regiment, Illinois Infantry (3 months, 1861)
    Regiment formed from first four Companies reporting at Springfield, Illinois April 20, 1861, which were ordered to Cairo,Illinois April 22. Regiment fully organized by the addition of three other Infantry Companies and three Artillery Companies and mustered in for three months' service by Capt. John Pope, U. S. A., April 29, 1861. Attached to Prentiss' Brigade and on garrison duty at Cairo, Illinois till July.
    Mustered out July 29, 1861.
  • 11th Regiment, Illinois Infantry
    Organized at Cairo, Illinois August 1, 1861.<br Mustered out July 10, 1865, and discharged at Camp Butler, Illinois July 18, 1865.
  • 13th Regiment, Illinois Infantry
    Organized at Dixon, Ill., and mustered into State service April 21, 1861. Mustered into U. S. service by Capt. John Pope May 24, 1861, being the first three years Regiment from Illinois mustered into U. S. service.
    Mustered out June 18, 1864.
  • 16th Regiment, Illinois Infantry
    Organized at Quincy, Ill., and mustered in May 24, 1861.
    Moved to Louisville,Kentucky, June 12. Mustered out July 8,1865 probably Louisville, Kentucky.
  • 18th Regiment, Illinois Infantry
    Organized at Aurora, Illinois., and mustered into State service May 19, and into U. S. service May 28, 1861.
    Non-Veterans mustered out May 28, 1864. Regiment mustered out at Little Rock, Arkansas., December 16, and discharged, at Camp Butler, Illinois., December 31, 1865.
  • 19th Regiment, Illinois Infantry
    Four Chicago Companies mustered into State service at Camp Yates May 4, 1861. Regiment organized at Chicago, Illinois, and mustered in June 17, 1861.
    Moved to Chicago June 8-17. Mustered out July 9, 1864; expiration of term.
  • 20th Regiment, Illinois Infantry
    Organized at Joliet, Illinois, and mustered in June 13, 1861.
    Mustered out July 16 and discharged at Chicago, Illinois, July 24, 1865.
  • 21st Regiment, Illinois Infantry
    Organized at Mattoon, Illinois, and mustered in June 28, 1861.
    Mustered out at San Antonio, Texas, December 16, and discharged at Camp Butler, Illinois, January 18, 1866.
  • 23rd Regiment, Illinois Infantry
    Organized at Chicago, Ill., and mustered in June 15, 1861.
    Mustered out at Richmond, Virginia, July 24, and discharged at Chicago, Illinois, July 30,1865.
  • 26th Regiment, Illinois Infantry
    Organized at Camp Butler, Illinois, and mustered in August 31, 1861.
    Moved to Louisville, Ky., June, and duty there until July. Mustered out July 20, and discharged at Springfield, Illinois, July 28, 1865.
  • From the 27th Regiment on, all units were infantry. See the units arranged by number for the rest of the infantry regiments.
