Known Issues
Question #1: I get a message “Image not Available” for some of the records even when I am signed in. How can I view these records?
Answer #1: Whenever possible, FamilySearch makes images available for all users. However, ultimate rights to view images on our website are granted by the record custodians. Italian Data Privacy rules prohibit viewing the following records: All birth images must be 100 years or older; all marriage images must be 70 years or older, and all death images must be 70 years or older.
If any record on a digital folder contains birth records from the last 100 years, for example, the entire digital folder is restricted.
The Historical Records collections will be updated each year to show new unrestricted records. FamilySearch respects and strives to adhere to all privacy laws respective to preserving and providing access to genealogical records in its collection.
Question #2: When I search for some records within this collection, I find that the record types are sometimes mixed. How can I search for specific record types?
Answer #2: Because of the way that the original documents were microfilmed, there are some instances where it has been necessary to use ‘generic’ descriptions of the record type(s) included for a particular set of images. You should still have success in finding the records that they are looking for by searching through the set to find the type of record for which you are searching. Please see example below:
- Allegati (vari) – may contain ‘mixed/various’ kinds of Allegati (supplemental documents) for births/marriages/deaths/banns/citizenship, etc. The records generally weren’t neatly arranged when they were microfilmed.
- Matrimoni e Pubblicazioni – the marriages and marriage banns were filmed in an alternating manner – i.e., you have two or three volumes of marriages, followed by a volume of banns, followed by another volume of marriages.
Question #3: When I search the following, Italy, Palermo, Termini Imerese, Civil Registration (Tribunale), 1862-1910 > Termini Imerese > morti 1890-1910, I know there are indexes for different years, but I have to search through each individual image to find the Index. How can I find the Indexes more easily?
Answer #3: The following listgives the image numbers by year for finding the index.
