Known Issues

Question #1: I get a message “Image not Available” for some of the records even when I am signed in. How can I view these records?
Answer #1: Whenever possible, FamilySearch makes images available for all users. However, ultimate rights to view images on our website are granted by the record custodians. Italian Data Privacy rules prohibit viewing the following records: All birth images must be 100 years or older; all marriage images must be 70 years or older, and all death images must be 70 years or older.

If any record on a digital folder contains birth records from the last 100 years, for example, the entire digital folder is restricted.

The Historical Records collections will be updated each year to show new unrestricted records. FamilySearch respects and strives to adhere to all privacy laws respective to preserving and providing access to genealogical records in its collection.

Question #2: When I search for some records within this collection, I find that the record types are sometimes mixed. How can I search for specific record types?
Answer #2: Because of the way that the original documents were microfilmed, there are some instances where it has been necessary to use ‘generic’ descriptions of the record type(s) included for a particular set of images. You should still have success in finding the records that they are looking for by searching through the set to find the type of record for which you are searching. Please see example below:

  • Allegati (vari) – may contain ‘mixed/various’ kinds of Allegati (supplemental documents) for births/marriages/deaths/banns/citizenship, etc. The records generally weren’t neatly arranged when they were microfilmed.
  • Matrimoni e Pubblicazioni – the marriages and marriage banns were filmed in an alternating manner – i.e., you have two or three volumes of marriages, followed by a volume of banns, followed by another volume of marriages.

Question #4: When searching Italy, Palermo, Termini Imerese, Civil Registration (Tribunale), 1862-1910>Aliminusa>Matrimoni 1862-1910>image 586 of 956, there is an image for pages 11 and 12 missing. Can I find the image?
Answer #4: These image were captured digitally so there is no microfilm available to solve the problem of the missing pages.

Question #5: When I search Termini Imerese > Allegati (vari) 1869, I found other years tan 1869. Should these years be noted in the browse point?
Answer #5: The nature of Allegati is that they are supporting documents for the purpose mentioned in the record. For example if you were reporting to get married you would need to provide proof of birth, citizenship, possibly end of prior marriages - all these would go into an Allegati for that purpose and would contain dates from lots of years previous to the year of the Allegati. We sampled 25 images and found them all to be prior and in support of what was determined.
