Historical Overview

History

Kiltegan is a parish located partly in the barony of Rathvilly, county of Carlow, and partly in the barony of Ballinacor, but chiefly in that of Upper Talbotstown, county of Wicklow, and province of Leinster. It is situated three miles northwest of Hacketstown, on the road to Baltinglass.

The living is a vicarage, in the diocese of Leighlin, episcopally united, in 1804, to the rectory and vicarage of Kilranelagh, and in the patronage of the Bishop by agreement with the Crown. In the Roman Catholic divisions the parish forms part of the union or district of Hacketstown. There was a chapel at Kilmoat.

Localities

The parish of Kiltegan is surrounded by the parishes of Hacketstown and Rathvilly, as well as the county of Kildare. It is located in the poor law union of Baltinglass.
