Parish History

MANTON (St. Hibald), a parish, in the union of Glandford-Brigg, partly in the wapentake of Corringham, and partly in the E. division of that of Manley, parts of Lindsey, county of Lincoln, 5¼miles (S. W. by W.) from Glandford-Brigg with the township of Cleatham, and the hamlet of Twigmoor. [1]

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson, described Manton like this:

MANTON, a village and a parish in Oakham district, Rutland. The village stands on an eminence, adjacent to the Syston and Peterborough railway, near the river Gwash, 3½ miles SSE of Oakham.[2]

The Victoria County History of Manton (1935) is available. It includes a history of the manor, church, advowson, and charities.[3]
