Milton St James (near Portsea) was originally created as a chapelry - one of ten chapelries all within the parish of Portsea, in the county of Hampshire, created in 1844 from Portsea Ancient Parish. The other chapelries included:
- (Holy) Trinity
- St George
- St John
- St Mary
- Land port St Luke
- Land port All Saints
- Havelock Park St Bartholomew
- Southsea St Paul
- Southsea St Jude with St Simon
