History

The Nevada Agency was a continuation of the Carson Valley Agency.[1] It was abolished in 1921[2], but in 1952 was established as a statewide jurisdiction reporting to the Phoenix Area Office.[3]

records of the Nevada Agency are in the Pacific Regional Archives of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in San Francisco<ref>Guide to Federal Records, Records of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Record Group 75. Available online.</ref>[5], including a variety of administrative files, 1895-1975.

Annual Indian Census Rolls were taken at this agency for 1886-1907 and for 1909 thru 1921. These rolls have been microfilmed by the National Archives as part of their Microcopy Number M595, rolls 288-289.[6] Copies of these records are also available at the National Archives, their Regional Archives, and at the Family History Library and its family history centers (their microfilm numbers 579698-579699). These census rolls are also available online at Ancestry.com's subscription web site.

The 1900 federal census included population schedules for the Nevada Agency. The census includes the non-Indian employees of the Nevada Agency, as well as many pages of Indian Population Schedules for the native population. They are recorded as District 51, Nevada Agency (also known as Pyramid Lake Agency), in Washoe County, Nevada.
