All 1st Regiments and Units

  • 1st Regiment, New York Mounted Rifles
    Mustered in July 30, 1861 at Fortress Monroe, Virginia.
    Mustered out July 21, 1865, by consolidation with 3rd Now York Cavalry to form 4th Provisional Cavalry.

  • 5th Regiment, New York Heavy Artillery
    Organized by consolidation of Jackson Heavy as Companies "E," "F," "G" and "H" and 2nd Jackson Heavy as Companies "A," "B," "C" and "D" March 6, 1862. 6th Battalion Heavy Artillery (3rd Battalion Black River Heavy Artillery) assigned as Companies "I," "K," "L" and "M" December 31, 1862.
    Mustered out July 19, 1865.
  • 5th Regiment, New York Cavalry
    Regiment recruited at New York City as Ira Harris Cavalry. Designated Ira Harris Guard October 16, 1861, and 5th New York Cavalry November 14, 1861. The Companies mustered in as follows: "A" August 15, "B" August 21, "C" September 3, "D" October 1, "E" October 7, "F" September 21, "G" October 9, "H" October 28, "I," "K," "L" and "M" October 31, 1861.
    Mustered out July 19, 1865
  • 5th Regiment, New York Veteran Infantry
    Organized into a Battalion of four Companies by consolidation of the Veterans and Recruits of the 5th New York Infantry, with those recruited for the reorganized 31st and 37th New York Infantry October 14, 1863.
    Mustered out August 21, 1565.
