The Records Room is the main center for deeds, mortgages and other land records and for most court records including judgments, foreclosures, Supreme and County court cases, divorces, veterans' discharges and other miscellaneous documents.[1]

Birth or death certificates as well as marriage licenses are not filed in the Rensselaer County Clerk’s office. Copies of birth or death certificates may be obtained either through the New York State Department of Health or the town or city clerk’s office where the person was born and/or died. Marriage licenses are also issued by city or town clerks and may be obtained from the office of the clerk who originally issued the marriage license.[2]
