Parish History

SLINDON (St. Mary), a parish, in the hundred of Aldwick, rape of Chichester, W. division of Sussex, 4¼ miles (W. by N.) from Arundel. Slindon House, the seat of the Countess Dowager of Newburgh, was originally built by one of the archbishops of Canterbury, and was for some time the residence of the celebrated Archbishop Langton, who died here in the reign of Henry III. .[1]
