Goliad ounty was originally named Bahia by the Spanish monarchy in 1700s. They had a presidio there(a military outpost). The cattlemen from the Santander area (rio grande area and the whole state of the Mexican state of Tamaulipas.) Actually Nuevo Santander consisted from the La Bahia down the coast, inland to Medina River near San Antonio, Texas. The cattlemen from the area villas would herd their cattle to the Presidio for the military personnel. There cattle herds driven in 1780's.
I am a Tejano and know my history. Sorry that Wiki has no data on Goliad county. My ancestors lived in Berclair, Goliad county in 1890s. Pass the info to who ever might find it interested.
