Talk:Italy Vital Records Index (FamilySearch Historical Records)Edit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
Why does the coverage table include Sicily and Italy as well as many province names? I would suggest that you breakdown your table by provinces only rather than lumping some record counts under Sicily and Italy.

In some of the entries included in this database the locality information was ambiguous, corrupted, or absent. Some records contain only Sicily or Italy as the locality. In these cases we decided to roll the entry up to the next highest recognized locality. For example, in one entry the locality was given as "parish of Biagio." According to the Getty Thesaurus of Geographic Names, there are seventeen different places in Italy that contain "Biagio" as part of their name. We simply didn't have enough information to determine which one of the seventeen it was, and assign it to the correct province.
