All 1st Units

  • 1st Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry (Carter's) (Confederate)
    Was organized in November, 1862, using the 3rd Tennessee Cavalry Battalion as its nucleus. This company was active in the Vicksburg Campaign and was captured July, 1863. Exchanged, it was attached to Waul's Texas Legion, then returned to the regiment. It surrendered with the Army of Tennessee.

All 2nd Units

All 3rd Units

  • 3rd Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry (Forrest's) (Confederate)
    Organized at Memphis, Tennessee, in October, 1861, as an eight-company battalion. In January, 1862, it was increased to regimental size.
    It confronted the Federals in Tennessee, Mississippi, Kentucky, and Alabama, and surrendered in May, 1865.
  • 3rd Regiment, Tennessee Mounted Infantry (Lillard's) (Confederate)
    Was organized in May, 1861, at Knoxville, Tennessee, and mustered into Confederate service in June at Lynchburg, Virginia. In April, 1865, it moved to Charlotte, North Carolina, and became part of President Davis' escort, until surrendering at Washington, Georgia, on May 9.

Units 4th through 5th

  • 4th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry (Murray's) (Confederate)
    Was organized in August, 1862, using Spiller's Tennessee Cavalry Battalion as its nucleus.On January 23, 1863, it disbanded. Four companies transferred to Baxter Smith's 8th Cavalry, four to the 22nd Infantry Regiment, and two to the 1st Confederate Cavalry Regiment.
  • 5th Regiment, Tennessee Infantry (Confederate)
    Completed its organization at Paris, Henry County, Tennessee, in May, 1861. During December, 1862 consolidated with the 4th Tennessee Volunteers.
    Only a remnant surrendered on April 26, 1865.

Units 6th through 8th

  • 8th Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry (Smith's) (Confederate)
    Organized in November, 1862, but annulled. Reoraganized in January, 1863, by consolidating Davis' Tennessee Cavalry Battalion and four companies from Murray's Cavalry Regiment.
    It surrendered with the Army of Tennessee.
