History

Tomah Indian Industrial School in Wisconsin was established in 1891 and opened in 1893. This boarding school was relatively small (150 students and 5 staff in 1899) and closed in 1941.

Records

Some of the records of the Tomah Indian School are deposited at the Great Lakes Regional Archives of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) at Chicago. These records include correspondence, records of employees, 1895-1909, and student enrollment and attendance records, 1895-1900. No student case files are included in the inventory of the records there.

Microfilm copies of ...Narrative and Statistical Reports... for the Tomah School, 1908-1936, are included in National Archives Microcopy M1011, Roll 149, available in the National Archives system and in the collections of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City (their microfilm number 1724367).
