The Truxton Cañon Agency is a currently operating agency of the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Its supervising office is the Phoenix Area Office.

Walapai (Hualapai)

History

The Truxton Canyon Boarding School was established on the Walapai Reservation in 1901 and assigned agency duries for the Walapai and Havasupai Indians. In 1904, a separate Havasupai Agency was established[1].

Records

Some administrative records of the Truxton Canyon Agency are in the Pacific Regional Archives of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) in Laguna Niguel, California[2].

Microfilm copies of ...Narrative and Statistical Reports... for the Truxton Canon Agency, 1907-1937, are included in National Archives Microcopy M1011, Rolls 151-152[3], available in the National Archives system and in the collections of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, beginning with their microfilm numbers 1724369-1724370.

Annual Indian Census Rolls were taken at this agency for 1901-1907, 1910-1926, and from 1928 thru 1939. These rolls have been microfilmed by the National Archives as part of their Microcopy Number M595, rolls 580 and 581[4]. Copies of these records are also available at the National Archives, their Regional Archives, and at the Family History Library and its family history centers (their microfilm numbers 583039-583040). These census rolls are also available online at Ancestry.com's subscription web site.
