About Me

Robin Foster
My name is Robin Foster. I have been researching my own genealogy and helping others find resources to document ancestors since 1985.  I have been a contributor to the wiki since February 20, 2008.

Wiki Community Recognition

Received Tuesday, April 13, 2010:

"Dear Community Member,

You have been nominated by a member(s) of the FamilySearch Wiki Community as a significant contributor to the Wiki and/or Forums. If you plan to be in the Salt Lake City area on Tuesday, April 27, 2010, we would like to invite you to a dinner honoring all such contributors. The dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. in the Relief Society room of the Joseph Smith Memorial Building. Please RSVP by Thursday, April 15, 2010 if you plan to attend. Even if you are unable to attend, please know you have been a valuable asset in making the FamilySearch Wiki what it is today, and the community acknowledges and appreciates your contributions."

Previous Username Issues

Before LDS Accounts were being migrated, my username was Robinsfamily06. After account migration, my username, a_forever_family, could no longer be accessed, and I lost all record of my contributions. Hence, I registered using SavingStories, so that I could continue contributing. I am a regular presenter at genealogy workshops and I always show the wiki to attendees who go away overjoyed at the potential of this tool to help those who use it to discover resources to identify their ancestors.

Community Support
I voluntarily supported FamilySearch products from 2007 to 2011. In 2011, I helped to create the FamilySearch Genealogy Research Communities on Facebook.   On April 30, 2013 to June 23, 2014, I served as a FamilySearch Wiki Support Team Lead. I am excited now to continue to devote my time and talents to the wiki community as well as to work closer with the great people who have dedicated so much of their efforts to make this tool what it is today.

Current Wiki Projects

Interests
I am currently the chairperson of the Fairview Cemetery Project. I am a member of the Greenwood County Historical Society. In my spare time, I help to promote genealogy in online communities on Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, and Google Plus. I write and post about ways that emerging technology can be useful in genealogical research, and I enjoy helping researchers discover historical records not commonly used in genealogical research.

I am a regular presenter for libraries, genealogical societies, and family history centers.  I am looking forward to presenting at the annual workshop of South Carolina Genealogical Society to be held in July 2014 at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History.

Two of my presentations were filmed and made available in the Learning Center at FamilySearch.org. One is entitled “Most Overlooked Record-Types in South Carolina.” I am the National Genealogy Examiner and the National Social Media Examiner, and I maintain several blogs. See robinrfoster.com.
