The Ute Mountain Agency is a currently operating agency. Its supervising office in the Bureau of Indian Affairs is the Albuquerque Area Office.

History

The Ute Mountain Agency was located in southwestern Colorado. On 1 September 1922, it and the Southern Ute Agency were brought together to form the Consolidated Ute Agency[1]. They were subsequently made independent.

Before 1 April 1915, Ute Mountain Agency was known as Navajo Springs School. 

Records

Annual Indian Census Rolls were taken at this agency from 1915 thru 1922. These rolls have been microfilmed by the National Archives as part of their Microcopy Number M595, roll 628[2]. Copies of these records are also available at the National Archives, their Regional Archives, and at the Family History Library and its family history centers (their microfilm number 583087). These census rolls are also available online at Ancestry.com's subscription web site.

Microfilm copies of...Narrative and Statistical Reports... for the Ute Mountain Agency, 1915-1922, are included in National Archives Microcopy M1011, roll 161[3], available in the National Archives system and in the collections of the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and their family history centers (their microfilm roll numbers 1724379).
