Washington (old) County
Vermont consisted of two counties in 1777, Cumberland County on the east side, and Bennington County to the west. In 1781 Cumberland County was split into four pieces, Orange County, Windham County, Windsor County, and Washington (old) County on the east side of the Connecticut River. The next year Washington (old) County became part of New Hampshire.[1]
