Wiki Project -- Idaho -- Tasks -- Newspapers in CitiesEdit This Page
From FamilySearch Wiki
Many of the towns of Idaho, even the smaller ones, have had newspapers published in the town. The Idaho State Archives has made an effort to gather copies of newspapers from throughout the state and have created a list of their holdings. Most of their holdings are on microfilm.
We need to make this inventory of holdings easier to use by copying their listings for each town (now in alphabetical order) to our town pages in the Wiki. For an example of a town where this has been done, see the town page for Kendrick, Latah County, Idaho.
For each town, an introductory statement needs to be made. A suggested statement might read something like this:
Copies of the following newspapers published in [name of the town] are included in the collections of the Idaho State Archives in Boise. (click on newspapers)
Then go to the state archives page listing the names of the newspapers in that town and the issues in their collection. Copy the list into the town page. It will look like this:
Kendrick Gazette-news Latah 1969:1:2-1985:6:27 y Kendrick Kendrick advocate Latah 1891:6:20, 8:8, 9:12, 9:19 y Kendrick Kendrick gazette Latah 1900:5:25, 1911:9:1, 1940:7:4 y Kendrick Kendrick gazette, 1903 Latah 1903:5:1-1968:12:26 y Kendrick Kendrick gazette, 1989 Latah 1989:8:10-9999 y
Then reformat it by removing the unnecessary information. When it is reformatted, it should look like this:
Gazette-news -- 1969:1:2-1985:6:27
Kendrick advocate -- 1891:6:20, 8:8, 9:12, 9:19
Kendrick gazette -- 1900:5:25, 1911:9:1, 1940:7:4
Kendrick gazette, 1903 -- 1903:5:1-1968:12:26 Kendrick gazette, 1989 -- 1989:8:10-present
If there are no newspapers for a town, please indicate that in the remarks column. If towns are found in the state archives list for which no town pages exist in the Wiki, please let the Project Manager know about them.
We need team members to volunteer to do these 170+ cities and towns, but we need you to volunteer for specific towns so we do not duplicate one another's work. Please review the list of towns in the chart below and sign up for the town for which you would like to volunteer by placing three tildes (~~~) in the "Responsible Party" column. When you add information for a town, please add the date completed in the appropriate column. Also feel free to add remarks, if necessary.
