Starting in the 17th century, hundreds of people have been buried in the Bruton Parish Church cemetery. Because only the wealthy could afford stone markers, many of the graves were left unmarked. The cemetery has several table tombs, affordable only to the most wealthy.

The cemetery is the only cemetery owned operated by the city of Williamsburg. Only residents of the city or former residents of ten years or more may be buried in the cemetery. Within its twenty acres, the Cedar Grove cemetery has a memorial garden, open to non-residents, dedicated for cremains. Granite monuments listing the names of the deceased surround the garden.

Galt Family Cemetery

The cemetery is located in Bicentennial Park on W Court Street. It holds the remains of members of the Galt family, intricately linked with Eastern State Hospital, that died between 1773 and 1866. There are no grave stones or markers. The cemetery is enclosed by a brick wall.

The cemetery is located in Colonial Williamsburg at the East end of Duke of Gloucester Street, near the rebuilt Virginia Capital Building
