The county is named after "Creek War veteran David Benton (1779–1860), an early settler in the county."^[3]

The Benton County Register of Deeds is located at the Courthouse, E. Court Square, Rm. 101, Camden, TN 38320-0008; Telephone: (901) 584-6053. Vital Records

Marriage

Marriages were not officially recorded in Benton County during the first few years of its existence. In 1838, a law was passed mandating the practice.^[11] The following publication, based on early newspapers, helps to alleviate this genealogical obstacle:
