This second level category contains subcategories and pages about counts of the population in a place. Censuses were usually taken for taxation, representation, or military conscription purposes. Genealogists typically use censuses to find the residence of a person or family.

This category does not include church records, directories, lists of groups, house registrations, military records, registers, taxpayer lists, town records, or voting records.
