Czechoslovakia or Czecho-Slovakia (as named in Treaty of Versailles, 1919)
Cesky: Československo or Česko-Slovensko
German: Tschechoslowakei
Polish: Czechosłowacja
Russian: Чехословакия
Hungarian: Csehszlovákia
Slovak: Česko-Slovensko

was a sovereign state in Central Europe which existed from October 1918, when it declared its independence from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, until 1992. From 1939 to 1945 the state did not have de facto existence, due to its forced division and partial incorporation into Nazi Germany, but the Czechoslovak government-in-exile nevertheless continued to exist during this time period. On 1 January 1993 Czechoslovakia peacefully split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Biography of Lipman Heller, "... the 17th century Torah giant whose historical title of "Tosfos Yom Tov" reflects universal reverence for the most famous of his many Torah commentaries. On the one hand it is a fascinating chronicle of the events in the trial-filled life of this tzaddik, as related in his "Megilas Eivah" and the addendum of his son. But it has also made a historic contribution of tracing the lineage of the thousands of descendants of this tzaddik throughout the world." (p. 3) Lipman Heller served in Prague, in Vienna, and in Crakow. Descendants lived in eastern Europe, in Israel, in the United States, and elsewhere.
