Freestone County has been home two four courthouse. The first three were constructed in 1851, 1855, 1891. The current courthouse, a 4-story brick building with classic details, was built in 1919. [2]

History
The first settlement of the area was about 1830.
Parent County
1850--Freestone County was created 6 September 1850 from Limestone County. The county was organized in 1851, with Mound Prairie selected as the county seat. The name of the town was soon changed to Fairfield. [3] County seat: Fairfield [4]
