In this set of books, a state history volume is combined with the following county biographies and histories. Not all Illinois counties are covered by these volumes.
When a multi-volume set is indicated for a county, usually the last volume focuses on county history and biographies. The first volume(s) deal with statewide information and biographies. All were originally published between 1896 and 1920. Reprints are available for some volumes.
Most volumes include an index to the biography surnames, but some volumes have an independent every-name index as indicated in the table below.
