Collection Description

Worldwide collection, but with a base in Essex County, including county and local histories, published vital records to 1850, city directories, censuses, tax lists, maps, newspapers, manuscript letters, financial papers, diaries, sermons, church records, militias, hospitals, schools, and municipal governments. Essex County books, manuscripts, and government records such as probate records, customs records, and maritime records. Travel and exploration by Essex County mariners, ship registers, and missionary journals. Can often help find trans-Atlantic ship logs, and ship images.
