Route of the Pennsylvania Road

The Pennsylvania Road is actually the name given to a collection of sorts of other roadways. The first roadway traveled between Philadelphia Pennsylvania and Lancaster, Pennsylvania. This road was called the Great Conestoga Road. The Forbes Road is also part of this collection of roadways and traveled from Harrisburg, PA, Chambersburg, Pa, Fort Loudon, Fort Littleton, Fort Bedford, Fort Ligonier and Fort Dusquesne, all in Pennsylvania.

After the last portion of the Lancaster Pike was completed, the Legislature of Pennsylvania issued charters to extend it westward to Pittsburg following along the route of the Forbe Road. At this point in time, the road became known as the Pennsylvania Road and was an important migration route for the people of Pennsylvania.
