The Utah South Hispanic Family History Center was set up to meet the needs of Hispanics in mainly Utah County, Utah, to assist them in finding information about their ancestors from throughout Latin America and other areas where Spanish is predominantly spoken,

It also services two LDS stakes in the central part of Provo Utah, and a few other nearby areas. All are welcome.

Location

The Center is located on 800 West in Provo just over two blocks north of Provo Center Street (also known as Highway 114) and is across the street from Dixon Middle School, a junior high school. The address is 263 North 800 West, and it is on the west side of the street. If using I-15 to come into Provo, take the Center Street Exit going east, then one block go past the stoplight at 900 West and turn left to go north 2 1/2 blocks to the center, which is on the left across from a loading area for the school across the road.

Location on map.

Parking space is limited, so if the six spaces are filled (this building having been previously used as an LDS seminary building few were originally needed during that time), please park on the street, 800 West.

Hours of Operation

The Center currently operates on the following schedule:

Tuesdays: 5pm to 8pm
Wednesdays: 5pm to 8pm
Thursdays: 5pm to 8pm
Sundays: 4pm to 8pm

Upcoming closed days:

Closed for April Conference, Mother's Day, the Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend, Father's Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Weekend (includes the Wednesday before and the Sunday of that weekend) and the last two weeks of the year for Christmas and New Years.

Resources

21 computers, in two rooms. One room can be used as a classroom, has basic computer screen projector for this purpose. All computers are connected to the Internet via DSL.  You can browse using Google Chrome (default) or Internet Explorer 8.  In most cases Chrome has been found to work better when browsing generally although a few smaller sites are known to work better in Internet Explorer.

All computers have the following software available for patron use:

  • All premium websites listed on the Family History Center Portal Those premium websites listed require a paid subscription to be accessed if used anywhere other than any Family History Center.
  • Ancestral Quest 12.1
  • Family Insight (works with New FamilySearch in that you can run your data against new FamilySearch, and move portions of data back and forth between your records and what New FamilySearch may already have, often finds entries looking at New FamilySearch on its own may not find.
  • ArhivDigital Online (Replaces Genelines 2)
  • GetMyAncestors (draws your ancestor lines in pedigrees from New FamilySearch.
  • Google Toolbar on browsers, has translate feature that is very useful when viewing foreign language websites.  Google Chrome has this feature built-in already.
  • Legacy 7.5
  • Ordinance Tracker (for LDS members to graphically see their temple submission list in New FamilySearch.
  • Personal Ancestral File (PAF) 4 and/or 5.2
  • Rootsmagic 5.
  • FamilySearch Indexing (You can do indexing here, get help, etc., and this is useful if your computer goes down and you want to still do indexing while it is being repaired, etc.)

5 microfilm readers

Small collection of microfilms, concentrated mostly on Latin American areas, although a few are from other areas. Films from the Family History Library can be ordered for the standard fee.

Online Microfilm/Microfiche Ordering

This Family History Center is one of the first in the United States to be integrated into the new Online Film Ordering system. Every Family History Center south of Salt Lake City is now on this new system.  To order a microfilm, go to https://film.familysearch.org/ and follow the instructions. Please be sure there is not already a digital copy online elsewhere in the FamilySearch website, you can do this by looking it up in the Family History Library Catalog, and the entry for the desired film will indicate that fact if it has been digitized and placed online.

You can do this from any computer connected to the Internet, whether it is at your home, work, a publcc library, or other computer, payment is by either Visa or Mastercard branded bank or gift cards.
