Talk:Submitting to the Pedigree Resource FileEdit This Page

Length of Time Before Download is Available

I thought it was very simple to download, the only problem is you don't have a clue when it will be accessible, and I wasn't sure when it was done downloading. It would have been nice (in a perfect world) if it could have had a pop up that would have allowed you to go to what you just downloaded, and a message stating approximately how long before it was view-able by the public....? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Az13west (talk | contribs) 21:03, 23 October 2012(UTC)

Hello Veghle,
I updated the instructions to provide more explanation about the time it take for the GEDCOM would appear. You should find it on the bottom of the same page: https://familysearch.org/upload/trees.
It becomes view-able publicly in the third step of the upload. Thank you for bringing the needed explanation to our attention. Hopefully, it now will be easier for the next person. SavingStories 20:26, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Pedigree Resource File submission id's

The latest version of PRF is an abridged version of what is actually available. My own ancestor William MELLORS m Ann HOLMES in Arnold Nottinghamshire England in 1802. Up until the software engineering revamp of the Genealogies Option there used to be 7 separate submission id's containing this marriage. Clearly from totally different submitters and with differing family content. A general search for the marriage now turns up 1Ancestry File entry (cobbled together from 6 separate submissions) and 1 PRF Submission (instead of the previous 7).

I was taught family history by Maude Alice HOLMES (one of the original submitters to PAF) and can personally vouch for the accuracy of her research in the UK but of course all this was lost when the software engineers decided to merge all of the AF Submissions.

They have now compounded and degraded PRF submissions by indicating that there is only one submission to PRF. New researchers will be unaware that there are 6 other submissions and currently there are no plans to make that information available

What would happen if I submitted my Gedcom to PRF - no more CD/DVD issues so I would have to rely on software allowing me to overwrite the current PRF Submitter ID to make the public aware that there is at least one more MELLORS/HOLMES researcher

What was a useful finding aid has been downgraded by people with little or no knowledge of how the data was being used

Hence my poor result
