Welcome to the Wiki Maintenance and Cleanup Project. Everyone is invited to help keep the wiki clean through doing maintenance tasks.

Maintenance work is a vital part of keeping the Research Wiki user friendly for its researchers. While helping with the maintenance tasks, remember two things:

  • Take the appropriate tag(s) off the page when you have completed cleaning an article.
  • Document what you have done on the article's talk page for the reference of other editors.

Be careful to avoid creating more maintenance work through instruction creep (bloating of instructions due to numerous edits/additions). Organize when you can, but always keep the big picture in sight: we are here to create a resource for family history researchers. If you wish to contribute to FamilySearch Wiki in ways other than maintenance, please consider some suggestions of things you can do.

Volunteer Leadership Opportunities

Below is a list of leadership opportunities for individuals who want to take on greater responsibilities and play a larger role in the wiki and its development.

Role Description
Community Council  The Community Council are a group of individuals who have been selected by the community and FamilySearch to serve as representatives of the community and interact directly with the FamilySearch Governance Council.
Volunteer Committees (Coming Soon) Volunteer committees have been created to allow the community to take a more active part in making the wiki successful. They work directly with community council members and FamilySearch employees to implement the strategic direction.
Project Leaders Project leaders oversee indivdual wiki projects. They interact, work with, and train volunteers to create and carry out wiki projects.
Wiki Mentors Wiki mentors are typically more experienced wiki users that offer assistance to new users by mentoring them through the basics of using the Wiki, or offering them specialized help.
Moderators Moderators are volunteer administrators of the FamilySearch Wiki who encourage contribution within a subject area on the wiki, monitor its content, and guide contributors.
Adopters While anyone can contribute to any page in the wiki, societies/organizations who adopt a page provide oversight to ensure that the content on that page is a) comprehensive and b) accurate.
Wiki Missionaries This role is available only to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Wiki missionaries can serve in roles dealing with support or with content and they have the ability to work both part or fulltime.
