The 1940 US Census has been out for almost 2 weeks and we’re pleased to see the amazing progress being made. Our overall goal of providing a high-quality searchable index of the 1940 census in a timely manner is progressing nicely as we all continue work together, but we still have a long way to go.
As of April 12th we have the following statistics to report:
- 45 states have their census records posted and are ready for indexing.
- The searchable index for Delaware is done and now available at FamilySearch.org/1940census.
- 8,672,104 records have been indexed and arbitrated by volunteers.
- More than 57,066 volunteers have indexed records from the 45 posted states.
It’s great to see so much excitement for indexing. Tell your friends and neighbors about your indexing experiences and show them how they can be involved. Let them feel the excitement of being a part of the national movement to index one of America’s great record collections.
